Artist in Residence: Mishka Bedrunkova

Colony Co-Working – Down Arrow

19 September 2024

Our very own site manager, Mishka Bedrunkova, has completed a new installation of artwork which we are displaying around the workspace. We sat down with Mishka to learn more about her art and creative process at Colony Piccadilly.

At Colony, we believe that our spaces are more than just places to work—they are environments designed to inspire creativity and fuel productivity. That’s why we’re thrilled to showcase the incredible artwork of Mishka Bedrunkova, whose minimalist and geometrically precise piece now graces our venue.

Bedrunkova’s work draws deeply from the worlds of Suprematism, Constructivism, and the Bauhaus movement. Each geometric shape is carefully arranged to create a sense of balance and serenity, making it not only a visual delight but also a calming presence in the workspace. The limited colour palette, evocative of Mark Rothko's emotional colour fields, allows each shape to stand out, fostering a contemplative atmosphere that fits seamlessly into the aesthetic of our venue.

The artwork isn't just a piece on the wall—it tells a story. Inspired by the artist’s personal experiences as a foreigner adapting to life in a new country, the piece embodies resilience, solitude, and the strength it takes to carve your own path. The echoes of Brutalist architecture and Swiss design, with their clean lines and structured forms, create a striking balance between the modern and timeless.

“I really enjoyed the whole process - from designing to painting all 5 canvases – the precision of each shape, simple colour palette and a smart look. Looking at Piccadilly when I first took over as a Manager, it was all very industrial – concrete jungle, with only a few colours in the space that gave it this delicate feeling and calming aura around. I fell in love with it instantly and as we make changes to the space with time, the industrial look is slowly fading away. I want my art to be a reminder of what Piccadilly used to be and truly is. A space where not a lot is needed to boost productivity and keep the mind sharp as all the shapes are!” - Mishka Bedrunkova

Bedrunkova's art has added a wonderful touch to Piccadilly's new look after recent refurbishments.

Mishka Bedrunkova’s art resonates deeply with Colony’s ethos—just as her art offers balance and peace, our workspaces are crafted to provide focus, creativity, and growth for those who use them. As you walk through our spaces, you’ll feel the legacy she has embedded within each shape, a testament to her journey and a source of inspiration for everyone who passes by.

We are proud to have this incredible artwork at Colony, and we hope that, like our workspace, it will inspire all who experience it. Stop by our venue to see Bedrunkova's work and experience the space that grows with you.
