What is a dedicated desk?
A dedicated desk is a fixed desk in a shared coworking space that belongs to you and no one else. Unlike hot desking, your desk is booked for you for the duration of your membership, so you get 24/7 access to your own dedicated workstation, rather than needing to find a free seat every time you come to Colony to work. You can leave your equipment set up, personalise the space and get on with your tasks straight away.
How much does it cost to rent a dedicated desk?
Our dedicated desk prices start at £250 +VAT. This is the baseline cost and will vary according to how long you sign up for. A six-month membership gives you access to all of Colony’s services at a preferential rate. The cost of renting dedicated desk space will also change depending on how many desks you need, from a single desk to a bank of desks to accommodate your team.
What are the benefits of using a coworking dedicated desk?
Renting a coworking dedicated desk gives workers freedom and flexibility in when and how they work, contributing to a better work-life balance. Being in an environment with others who enjoy coworking also provides opportunities to network and grow your connections. With a dedicated desk membership, you get a guaranteed desk to work from, as well as standard amenities, such as air conditioning, secure buildings and high-speed internet. You can use your Colony office as your registered business address and get discounts on meeting rooms and event spaces.
Can you book a meeting room as well as a dedicated desk?
Yes, you can book a meeting room when you rent a desk space. Manchester has 6 Colony locations with a variety of meeting rooms, and those with a dedicated desk membership get preferential rates on booking. If you’re visiting the city and need a space to work during the day and a separate meeting room, we can help you with a day pass as well as hosting your event.
Who is a dedicated desk best suited for?
Dedicated desks are ideal for freelancers, remote workers, sole traders, and small growing teams. They’re a perfect solution for those who want a consistent base, and to add more structure and focus to their day. If you rely on dual-monitor setups or desktop equipment and prefer having a guaranteed spot every day without the overhead of renting a private office, a dedicated desk is for you.
Is there storage included in a dedicated desk membership?
Yes. Dedicated desk members have access to personal storage, with dedicated locker space available at Colony locations. This gives you somewhere secure to keep everyday work essentials rather than having to carry everything with you each day. Storage arrangements can vary between locations, so speak to the Colony team about what’s available at your chosen workspace.
What is the minimum contract for a dedicated coworking desk?
You can rent a dedicated desk for a minimum of one month, giving you freedom and flexibility. Memberships then run on a rolling monthly basis, with rates reducing the longer you commit. Renting a dedicated desk starts at £300 +VAT per month on a one-month term, £275 +VAT for three months, and £250 +VAT for six months. If you find you keep rolling your membership over, the six month plan offers better value and all the same great perks.
Can businesses register their address at the workspace?
Yes, businesses can register their address at the workspace when signing up for a long-term membership. Mail handling is also included, with a serviced reception to sort your post and let you know when guests arrive. It's a straightforward way to give your business a credible Manchester city centre address without taking on a lease.
Can I change my dedicated desk to another Colony location?
When you sign up, you’ll select a primary Colony location for your dedicated desk space. Manchester Colony members can use this space 24 hours a day, as well as gain access to all other Colony locations between the hours of 9-5.30pm. If you want to change your primary Colony location and move your dedicated desk, our community management team can help transfer your membership based on desk availability.
What is the dedicated desk cancellation policy?
Dedicated desk memberships run for a minimum term of one, three or six months. Your earliest end date is the last day of the calendar month specified by your minimum term - after that, your membership continues on a rolling basis until you give notice. Notice must be given in writing, by emailing your community team. Full terms are set out in the Membership Licence agreement, which you'll sign when you set up your dedicated desk membership; if you need a replacement, please email us.
What are the best times of year to apply for a dedicated desk membership?
There isn't a single best time to join, but it can be worth keeping an eye out for seasonal membership offers. Demand tends to peak in January and again in September, when people return from holidays and set new goals for the year. The quietest periods tend to be late spring, mid-summer and the weeks either side of Christmas. If you want to get ahead of the curve, these times can offer more choice of location and desk position.
