IWD Profiles - Karima Benameur Taieb
It's Day 8 of our series of profiles on the some of the amazing women who make our Colony Community so wonderful! For the final day of our IWD 2021 feature we spoke with Karima about her experiences as a professional goal keeper for Manchester City. The world of football has historically been male dominated but in recent years there has been a major shift. More and more women are playing professionally every year and it's because of inspiring people like Karima.
Have a read about her experiences below!
Who is Karima Benameur Taieb?
My name is Karima Benameur Taieb. I am 31 years old. I come from the South of France near Montpellier, and I am a Manchester City professional goalkeeper.
What does it meant to be a woman in your field?
I am very happy and proud to be a woman in an environment that started out very masculine. For many years, many women have been more attracted to this world of football, not only the players, in various other positions as well, referees, coaches, in federations... this development is very positive not only for women's football but for football in general. It is a mix that can be beneficial for all.
If you had the knowledge you have now, what would you say to your younger self?
Each step you take will lead you to become the person you should be, a serene and confident woman, doing what you are good at, loving the people you decide to love ... sometimes the steps will be larger or smaller, slow or fast, but the most important point is to keep moving.
