6 of the Best Bars In Ancoats For After-Work Drinks

Whether you want a midweek pint or a few Friday cocktails, there’ll definitely be something to wet your whistle in Ancoats. Bars, pubs and restaurants aren’t just plentiful here - they’re arguably some of the best in Manchester. So put your to-do list away and grab a colleague or two; here’s our round up of the best bars in Ancoats for post-work drinks.

1. The Jane Eyre

Located in the heart of Ancoats, The Jane Eyre is an ever-popular destination serving up cocktails with a typically Ancoats twist. The Tengo Suerte is a punchy mix of Havana Rum, mango, lime, sugar, nutmeg and Amara Montenegro, and there’s a good assortment of wines to choose from too. You’ll be among other professionals from nearby offices, so expect a good dose of chatter and a lively atmosphere played out over the sounds of upbeat soul and R&B.

Prices: Wine from £5.25. Cocktails from £11.50. Offers available Tuesday to Friday 3-6pm, including, £7 cocktails and £4 beers.

Address: 14 Hood St, Ancoats, Manchester M4 6WX

2. Seven Bro7hers Beerhouse

If you’re looking for Ancoats bars that care more about the drinks than the clout, then Seven Bro7hers will be right up your street. Bare brick walls, chalk board menus, and scaffold style bar tables tell you that Seven Bro7hers isn’t here for the Instagram set. Unsurprisingly, there’s a huge selection of beers, with smooth lagers, hoppy IPAs and rich pale ales on tap. If you want to shoot the breeze after a gruelling day of meetings, then get there between 4pm and 7pm Monday to Thursday to make the most of happy hour.

Prices: Pints from £4. Cocktails from £6. Happy hour every Monday to Thursday 4pm - 7pm and Fridays 5pm - 7pm with £6.50 doubles and a bottle of wine for £15.

3. Erst

We’ve had cocktails, we’ve had beer, so now let’s welcome the wine lovers to the party. Erst is famed for its carefully curated selection of natural wines, with knowledgeable staff on hand to talk you through the menu. You can grab dinner here too, with a small but exquisitely formed selection of dishes designed to pair beautifully with your wine. Beer and cocktails are available too, and the relaxed and inviting atmosphere means you might spend a little too long whiling away those after-work hours.

Prices: Glasses of wine or pint of beer from £5 each.

Address: 9 Murray St, Ancoats, Manchester M4 6HS

4. Blossom Street Social

Run, don’t walk from your desk to Blossom Street Social. The funk and soul beats are almost as good as the wine list and, as you might have guessed, there’s a focus on all things social. Like plenty of other bars in Ancoats, Blossom Street Social also serves up incredible food, with cheese and charcuterie boards the ideal accompaniment to a post-work Sauvignon or Negroni. There’s an upmarket and sophisticated feel that makes it a hot spot for Manchester professionals or businesses taking clients out for informal introductions.

Prices: Pints of beer or cider form £6. Cocktails from £11. Non-alcoholic drinks from £4

Address: 51 Blossom St, Ancoats, Manchester M4 6AJ

5. The Edinburgh Castle

Perhaps not strictly a ‘bar,’ The Edinburgh Castle is worth making an exception for. Originally built in the early 19th century, there are definitely shades of a classic boozer, but with a trendy Ancoats veneer that make it both homely but hip enough for the locals. There’s often live music or events going on and, of course, the shelves are well-stocked with a comprehensive range of beers, wines and spirits. If you’re dining as well as drinking, the food is far from humble pub grub, with Swaledale lamb shoulder and tromboncino squash definitely worth a try. There’s also plenty of seating if the whole team is joining in on the after-work action.

Prices: Bottles of wine from £24. Cocktails from £9. Lager from £6.50

Address: 17 Blossom St, Ancoats, Manchester M4 5EP

6. Jimmy’s

Set over two floors and with a mullet-topped nod to everything rock and roll, Jimmy’s is a must for when you want to shake off a hectic day. The staff are always chatty and welcoming and the drinks cover all of your favourite tipples, including Brooklyn Beer on draft and a solid selection of gins. If a quiet drink is on your agenda, then Jimmy’s might not be right for you, but if Ancoats bars with a buzz are your thing, then you’ll love it here. Don’t bank on staying for ‘just the one’.

Prices: Cocktails starting at £9. Pints of beer from £5.

Address: 27 Blossom St, Ancoats, Manchester M4 6AJ
