Amazon & The Modern Workspace: Flex Is Key

Colony Co-Working – Down Arrow

18 September 2024

Colony's Head of Sales, Georgia-kaye Berry, unpacks Amazon's recent decision to ask all staff to return to the office full-time.

Amazon’s recent decision to bring employees back to the office five days a week raises an important question for businesses: how can we create workspaces that employees want to return to?

As the Head of Sales at Colony, I work with companies daily to help them rethink their approach to office environments—making them adaptable and responsive to the changing needs of teams.

Let’s unpack why Amazon’s decision needs to be followed through with an environment that their workforce will actually work their best in.

A Shift in the Office Paradigm:

While some companies, like Amazon, are moving towards more rigid in-office requirements, we often see businesses taking a different approach: flexibility. Businesses today need workspaces that can evolve with their people, not against them. At Colony, our focus is on providing flexible workspaces that accommodate both hybrid and in-office work, offering a mix of private offices, coworking areas, and collaborative zones.

Creating Spaces People Want to Be In:

Employees want more than just a desk—they want an environment that fosters productivity and well-being. We provide ergonomic furniture, thoughtful design, wellness amenities and a jam packed events calendar that makes time spent in the office enjoyable and efficient. This, in turn, benefits businesses by increasing engagement and output.

Building a Community of Collaboration:

Physical spaces are just part of the equation. At Colony, we emphasise creating a community through regular events, workshops, and wellness programs that encourage collaboration and connection. Our spaces become hubs of interaction, keeping employees engaged, inspired, and connected—no matter how many days they’re in the office. This not only benefits the individual employees but helps those businesses retain their top talent.

Empowering Businesses to Maximise Their Space:

Our goal is to ensure that businesses make the most out of their workspaces. Whether you need flexible coworking memberships, dedicated desks, or collaborative private offices, we’re here to help companies adapt. At Colony, we provide the tools and environment to ensure your team thrives, stays motivated, and feels supported— while enhancing and elevating your business. After all, that’s what the future of work demands!
